SD: Hello, Anna! This is Kat (aka Serene Dappidy online) representing So Tres Chic, my personal and visual showcase for chic and stylish wear! Can you share me your story of your journey as a fashion/portrait photographer?
AK: I’d be delighted! I was initially drawn to fashion photography by the power of self-expression. As a female photographer, I’m particularly passionate about empowering individuals through through their style and individuality.
My journey into fashion photography was further enriched by my formal education in an art academy. It was there that I refined my artistic sensibilities and technical skills under accomplished mentors.
One of my most pivotal moments came when my master, recognizing my potential, referred me to a local model agency. This opportunity exposed me into the world of fashion photography, where I began working on model tests and honing my craft.
SD: Out of all the photography genres out there, why pick fashion and portrait?
AK: Fashion allows me to play with style, textures, and aesthetics, creating visually striking narratives without limitations. On the other hand, portrait photography is an intimate art form, capturing the essence of a person in their most authentic moments. Together, these genres allow me to fuse inner beauty and human connection together.
SD: What was your favorite photoshoot so far?
AK: Probably my collaboration with Beaux magazine for their Halloween issue. It was an exhilarating experience, The resulting images truly captured the essence of the Halloween spirit in a way that I’m immensely proud of.

AK: Yes, it provides a deeper understanding of how clothing, accessories, and overall aesthetics interact within a composition. This knowledge allows for more effective collaboration with stylists and ability to convey a visual narrative. Additionally, it enables a photographer to make informed decisions about wardrobe choices and how a photoshoot project will turn out.
SD: Which photographers inspire you the most?
AK: Annie Leibovitz’s ability to capture the her subjects in such a raw and authentic manner has always resonated with me. Her portraits are not only visually striking but also emotionally evocative.
Then you have Helmut Newton, whose bold and provocative style has also been a significant influence to me. His fearless exploration of sensuality and power within his work has left an indelible mark on the industry. Both of these photographers have shaped my perspective and encouraged me to push boundaries.
SD: Leibovitz has made so many iconic covers for Vogue! I can definitely see where you’re coming from. Where do you typically find inspiration for your photography?
AK: I work with a diverse rage of women-clients, many of whom are accomplished business owners and professionals. Additionally, I have the privilege of working with both experienced and aspiring models by helping them build their portfolios. Businesswomen often aim to exude confidence and professionalism, while models look to capture their versatility and potential in the industry.
SD: What advice would you give out to people starting in fashion photography?
AK: Prioritize collaboration. Engage with makeup artists, stylists, and models as frequently as you can. The synergy of creative minds provide inspiration. Additionally, don’t shy away from experimentation. Push boundaries, try new techniques, and be open to unconventional ideas. This will help you discover your unique style and perspective and set you apart in your field.
SD: In your opinion, what are the most important skills to help translate a client’s vision of themselves onto a photo?
AK: In my perspective, several crucial skills play a pivotal role in translating a client’s vision into a photograph.
Effective communication is paramount. Understanding their desires and preferences allows me to bring their vision to life. Empathy is equally important, as it helps me ensure their comfort and confidence in front of the camera.
Being open-minded and flexible allows me to adapt to different ideas and preferences in obtaining the final result. Psychological insight is equally valuable. It helps me understand the nuances of body language and expressions.
Above all, a genuine love for people is the driving force behind what I do. It helps me create an environment of trust and connection, where the client can truly express themselves, resulting in a photograph that truly encapsulates their unique essence.
SD: It’s been a pleasure, Anna! I learned quite a bit from you.
AK: Thank you for the opportunity!
